Is there any way for us to be able to acquire another player at this point in the season? Why would they release him shortly before the season is going to end?

Uh.. any reason why we're letting people go rather than letting them to go an expansion team?

What difference does it make if they release him now or in three weeks? He is not playing, is not on the 18 man roster and has not suited up for the team in weeks?

Here is what I speculate; The way I understand it, Jack Stewart's rights will still belong to RSL. I believe but am not sure but he may still be able to be listed on the expansion draft. If he is picked up in the expansion draft RSL lose a player and get nothing in return.

If he cannot be listed in the expansion draft and is released then subsequently picked up by San Jose or a different team RSL will get something in return for him.

The number of protected players does not change so it will be just one less unprotected player listed. RSL has the potential to benefit by releasing him.
I personally don't see a problem with RSL trying to benefit from losing Stewart.

Thanks for the clarification, Eric. Makes more sense now.

Thanks Eric. I'm still learning the ins and outs of personnel moves in MLS. I'd agree that I don't really see a downside to letting him go early. I just thought the timing was a little odd. I thought there must be some potential benefit.
