AYL Climbers and Sliders: Week 3
Jacob Hart
Tuesday, 15 April 2008

Alright, week 3 ends with more high-scoring affairs, and our contributors rank all 14 MLS clubs for this week's average:

1. Chicago Fire. Previous Ranking: #3.  Blanco and company are undefeated and have a goal differential of +5. - Hart

2. Kansas City Wizards. Previous Ranking: #1.  What happened at home against New England can't happen if you want to make postseason noise in MLS. - Horton

3. Chivas USA. Previous Ranking: #2.  Three road goals and still get the loss!  Is the vaunted Goats defense vulnerable? - Hart

4. Colorado Rapids. Previous Ranking: #6.  They are getting results. - Bernhardt

5. New England Revolution. Previous Ranking: #4.  Even with two losses I think they are the real deal, but inconsistent so far. - Bernhardt

6. FC Dallas. Previous Ranking: #8.  The Hoops are undefeated, and also cracked the win column this week. - Hart

7. Columbus Crew. Previous Ranking: #10.  Schelotto has this team looking more dangerous than they have in a long time. - Horton

8. DC United. Previous Ranking: #5.  Yeah, we all know you're tired and all that, but you can't sugar-coat any loss that embarrassing. - Horton

9. New York Red Bulls. Previous Ranking: #7.  Tough loss on the road this week, but they have two winnable games coming up. - Horton

10. Real Salt Lake. Previous Ranking: #12.  Has yet to play a bad game, their record is worse than what they've shown. - Bernhardt

11. Houston Dynamo. Previous Ranking: #9.  How the mighty have fallen.  Perhaps the wins will come now that they are concentrating solely on MLS. - Hart

12. Los Angeles Galaxy. Previous Ranking: #11.  How to judge this team?  Scoring weapons abound, yet the defense is so vulnerable. - Bernhardt

13. Toronto FC. Previous Ranking: #14.  Two new signings translate into two assists this week for TFC. - Hart

14. San Jose Earthquakes. Previous Ranking: #13.  Playing with passion, but have a bunch of outmatched players and can't finish to save their lives. - Horton

Biggest Climber: Columbus Crew (3 Spots)

Biggest Slider: DC United (3 Spots)

Of Note: Despite wins, neither Toronto FC nor Real Salt Lake overtook the teams they beat - one on the road and the other a 4-0 rout.  For the second week in a row, the top team was unanimous, with Chicago replacing Kansas City.  There were two virtual ties, with just a fraction of a difference separating Chivas and Colorado, as well as New York and Real Salt Lake.
